Tree Planting with the Haselbury Wildlife and Habitats Group
On Saturday 11th of March the Haselbury Wildlife and Habitats Group helped us to plant around 1500 new native species trees to create a woodland strip at the farm. This area, approximately 10m wide and 500m long, will grow to be a beautiful woodland of mixed native species, creating a screen from our barns to the village and helping to create habitat for lots of wildlife.
I can’t thank the volunteers who helped us with this monumental task enough. The ground conditions made the planting difficult (Even with the reassurance that the ground was drier on the second half) and the less than favourable weather was only slightly helped by the cattle trailer which became a tea room in the field. Despite the challenges we powered through to plant all of the trees in about 4 hours, which was a brilliant achievement!
It was a great day out for the local community, encouraging people to help plant new tree’s and create habitat in their community, and hopefully bringing people together for a social at the same time! Thank you all, and we look forward to seeing this woodland grow and looking to the next project on the farm!
